🔧 How It Works
The load index is a numerical code that corresponds to the maximum weight a tire can support when properly inflated. This calculator maps your load index to pounds per tire, multiplies by the number of tires, and compares that total capacity against your vehicle's curb weight plus cargo, passengers, and trailer tongue weight. The safety margin shows how much reserve capacity remains.
How to use: Enter your tire's load index, tire count (4 or 6 for dually), curb weight, cargo weight, and any trailer tongue weight. Click Calculate to see per-tire capacity, total capacity, your actual load, and the safety margin percentage.
Tip: A safety margin below 10% is risky for towing or heavy loads. Always use LT-rated tires on 3/4-ton and larger trucks. Passenger-car tires (P-metric) are not rated for truck loads regardless of size.
